RADIOFREQUENCY MICRONEEDLING (RFMn)
Pre-Treatment & Post-Treatment Instructions
Our office wants to provide you with the absolute best care. You can help to minimize the risk of complications by carefully reading and following your pre and post treatment instructions. Ask us to clarify any item about which you have questions.
RF microneedling (RFMn) induces ablation, thus improving the appearance of rough texture, fine lines, wrinkles superficial pigment and depressed scars (such as acne scars). This treatment also induces skin rejuvenation by heating of the dermis, which stimulates collagen generation and replenishment, as well as closure of superficial damaged blood capillaries. The RFMn technology can be used for multiple body areas including: face/neck/chest, hands, vulvo-vaginal and other body areas. This treatment requires an anesthetic in the form of a topical cream, injections, or sedation according to the treatment parameters and the physician discretion. Please inform the provider prior to treatment if you have any of the following conditions that may make you unsuitable for RF Microneedling treatments.
- Pacemaker or internal defibrillator or any internal device
- Permanent implant in the area of treatment
- Impaired immune system
- Conditions such as cardiac disorders, epilepsy, uncontrolled hypertension, and liver or kidney diseases
- History of skin disorders such as keloid scarring
- Abnormal wound healing/diabetes
- Use of Isotretinoin (Accutane) within 6 months prior to treatment
Pre-Treatment:
- Avoid sun exposure and excessive heat for at least one week prior to treatment. Notify your physician if you develop a cold sore or any other illness prior to the treatment.
- Purchase a non-allergenic water-based moisturizer, such as Aquaphor, or physician prescribed aftercare products for use in post-treatment care.
- Pre-treatment prescriptions (such as oral antibiotics or antiviral medications) should be filled and initiated prior to treatment.
- Avoid using Retin-A or any other product of the “retinoid” family 1 week prior.
- Discuss all medications/ including blood thinners and supplements with your provider prior to treatment.
- Do not wear unnecessary jewelry, perfume (deodorant is OK), or cosmetics to the appointment.
- A topical numbing cream will be placed on the entire area being treated and sit for minimum of 30 minutes.
- Anesthetic: If required, the MD or licensed staff will anesthetize the skin at sites through which lidocaine or dilute tumescent lidocaine will be delivered. Patients usually experience a slight pinching, burning or no sensation as the skin becomes “numb”. Regional anesthesia can be achieved by injecting anesthetic near specific nerves to block pain in the area to be treated.
Post-Treatment:
- Immediately following the treatment allow the skin to remain warm to stimulate blood flow to the treated areas and enhance collagen formation. The addition of PRP (platelet-rich plasma) can improve heal time and enhance results
- If stinging or discomfort continues on same day of treatment use 1 teaspoon of vinegar to 1 cup of cool distilled water and gently soak the skin with a soft cloth. Aquaphor or your prescribed aftercare should then be applied. This process may be continued as long as your skin is uncomfortable, however is typically not required more than 1-2 days.
- Do not pick or rub your skin during the healing process but rather pat the skin during cleansing and aftercare.
- Itching is common as the skin is healing. Resist the urge to scratch. Rather, gently pat the areas with the vinegar soaks, and reapply moisture. If a cold sore or blister appears, please contact the office as medication may be prescribed.
- Activities: You may return to your daily activities without restriction.
- Sun Exposure: It is required to avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat. SPF 30 or higher is required every day and should be reapplied frequently. Protecting your skin and limiting sun exposure is essential to ensure best cosmetic result.
- Adding topical Vitamin C and Retin-A between treatments can enhance results up to 150%
- If you experience prolonged pain, discoloration or any allergic responses or in the area please contact the office at 859-266-5483 or 859-266-0117 (after hours).
In case of emergency, contact your MD, call 911 or go to closest Emergency Room.
