Choosing an aesthetic provider can feel overwhelming, even when you know which treatment interests you. Plenty of practices offer the same treatments. You’ll see familiar product names and photos of results, but it can be difficult to know what separates one provider’s experience from someone else’s.
One question can help you look beyond the marketing: How often do you actually perform this treatment?
We want our patients to understand that. The experience behind your appointment matters, and you deserve to know about it before deciding where to go.
You can find the same laser or injectable product at different practices. That doesn’t mean your treatment experience will be the same.
Someone still has to assess you and decide if that treatment is appropriate. With a laser, that includes choosing settings suited to your skin. With injectables, it includes understanding your anatomy and deciding how much product to use.
Those decisions are part of your medical care. The device or product doesn’t make them for your provider.
At Be Medispa, we’ve practiced aesthetic medicine in Lexington since 2004. Paul L. Hester, MD, MBA, and Chasity Hester, PA-C, founded our physician-led practice with medical specialty standards at the center of our care.
When we recommend a treatment, we want you to understand why.
By volume, we mean how much hands-on experience a provider has with the treatment you’re considering.
There’s a difference between learning a procedure and performing it regularly over a career. Seeing patients consistently gives providers opportunities to work with different anatomy and follow how treatments develop over time.
The follow-up matters, too. An immediate result tells only part of the story. Seeing a patient after healing gives a provider valuable information to bring into future treatment decisions.
This applies to laser resurfacing just as much as it does to filler. It matters for body contouring and treatments that stimulate collagen, too.
A busy schedule alone doesn’t prove someone’s skill. But how often a provider performs a procedure matters, especially when that experience is supported by ongoing education.
Ask about their experience with your specific treatment, not just how long they’ve worked in aesthetics.
You may hear that a provider has been “trained by the company.” Manufacturer training is an important part of learning to use a product or device. But patients should also understand what happens after that initial training.
Developing proficiency takes continued investment. Providers need opportunities to deepen their knowledge and refine the way they work.
At Be Medispa, we invest thousands of dollars to acquire and maintain that proficiency. Education is an ongoing responsibility for us, even with decades of experience behind our practice.
Chasity Hester, PA-C, is also a Galderma National Trainer. Teaching other providers is part of her work, alongside caring for our patients.
We share that credential so you know something about the experience behind your appointment. You should be able to ask any practice about the education behind theirs.
Our Galderma rankings offer one point of reference for this conversation:
| Product or category | Regional ranking | National ranking |
|---|---|---|
| Restylane Lyft | 1st | 14th |
| Restylane Kysse | 7th | Top 250 |
| Restylane Defyne | 7th | Top 250 |
| Sculptra | 11th | Top 500 |
| All brands | 11th | Top 500 |
These figures relate to one manufacturer’s portfolio. They don’t represent every aesthetic treatment we perform, and they aren’t individual provider procedure counts.
We’re sharing them as context alongside our team’s credentials. When you’re researching a practice, it’s helpful to look for concrete information about its experience instead of relying on a treatment menu alone.
The same conversation belongs in a consultation for a laser or body treatment. Ask how often your provider performs it and what training supports their approach.
You don’t need a medical background to ask thoughtful questions about your care. These are reasonable things to discuss with a prospective provider:
Pay attention to how the provider answers. You should feel comfortable asking for clarification, and you should have time to understand the recommendation before deciding.
Our patients often arrive knowing what they’d like to change but feeling unsure about which treatment to choose. That’s a good reason to start with a consultation.
We’ll assess your concerns and explain our recommendations. Sometimes that means discussing a treatment you hadn’t considered. Sometimes it means explaining why the treatment you came in asking about may not be appropriate.
Our experience helps guide that conversation. Your questions belong in it.
